The NFI shares branded masks and disinfectants to its players in the fight against the corona virus

In its continuous contribution to the fight against the deadly corona virus, the Nkamanyi Football Initiative (NFI), today Saturday 02nd May, distributed branded home-made masks and disinfectants to all its teams. The action was supervised and carried out by all staff of the NFI (Terence Nkamanyi, Nilong Moses, Nkengafac David, Dekelly Takang, Morimi Micheal, John Che, Ndoke Joseph, Ashu Tong and Ebika Henry).

This action which was directly funded by its initiator, Clement Nkamanyi, with the aim of forstering the search for local solutions in the fight against the corona virus and also of creating awareness to having a spirit of community responsibility within the NFI. In this light, the disinfectants were produced by the Local Youth Corner Cameroon, an association which works in close collaboration with our NFI German partner (African Impulse e.V.). They used the recommendations of the ministry of public health to locally produce the disinfectants and transported them to Kumba. Meanwhile the masks themselves were produced by a tailor in Kumba and also branded with the NFI logo there.

When asked about his motivation for the action, Clement Nkamanyi, the initiator and head of the Supervisory Board of the NFI had this to say "I am very close to Cameroon due to the NFI. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, I have been worried about how it might affect our young people there and so have kept in touch daily with our team on the ground. We stopped our activities long before government could issue an order. I have been wondering about my personal action on helping the team fight this from far away Germany. When I got wind from the national coordinator of the Loyocameroon ( a partner organization with the African Impulse), Mr. Christian Achaleke, that they were trying to locally produce disinfectants with methods prescribed by the WHO which requires the use of hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, glycerine and water, I immediately asked for details and was convinced I had to support this action. It is two-fold. We are encouraging local solutions which help fight the crisis and we are also actively taking measures in fighting the disease and teaching our youths about the importance of participating in actions that support a healthy community. The NFI did not have to import disinfectants, some youths gained employment and knowledge by producing the hand sanitizers and our beneficiaries are happy as it helps them stay healthy and protected".

Cross sections of all NFI teams were present (Sky Boys, Division 3 team, the Sky girls and all the youth teams). All who were not present shall still be able to collect theirs in the course of the week. In all, we are very satisfied with the action as we continue to make our own little contribution aimed at curbing the spread of this deadly disease. Asked how they perceive the action, Glend Ndoune, a U15 player said "We are very happy to be part of the NFI. It is just like a family. They really care about our wellbeing. I have never had the chance to get a hand sanitizer, but thanks to the NFI, I have one now and we have also be taught about actions to take to limit the spread of the virus. I am so happy and thankful".
